Posted 25 September - PM. I'm not sure I can say I'm glad to be back here cause that means I've got problems. This one I can't figure out what happened. It may be complex, and hoping someone can help. I have recently noticed within the past two days or so, an empty uncategorized folder that appears on my desktop after Windows boot up.

When I right click on it for properties, it gives me the options of Cut, Create shortcut, and Delete. Also, I have noticed that when I sign into my network, there is an unrecognized SSID that shows up, but quickly disappears sometimes right after I log in, every time. It shows up on my devices too. When i logged into my router set up page, it posted that the unknown SSID could possibly be a hacker. I use NetGear Genie, and now that app on my phone crashes. I just updated to the iOS7 software.

My iTunes Store app crashes now too. But I am going to contact Apple about that. I just ran a Norton quick scan, and only 2 tracking cookies showed up. I recently loaded HotSpot Shield on my computer and phone. Not sure if that program could have anything to do with this issue. I was also getting freezes and error messages at times using Firefox 24 on my Win7 PC. Posted 27 September - PM. Ok, here's a quick update!

The folder is still there on my desktop, and when I go to delete it, the option window says, "Are you sure you want to delete these icons from your desktop? Nor do I wish to create a shortcut.

I am not sure if I have posted in the right forum. Maybe I will post in another one. Posted 28 September - AM. Posted 28 September - PM.

Solved: Two Unnamed system folders in My Computer

How-To Geek is where you turn when you want experts to explain technology. Since we launched inour articles have been read more than 1 billion times. Want to know more?A folder in Windows 10 is a storage area, just like a real folder in a file cabinet. Windows gives you six main folders for storing your files. For easy access, they live in the This PC section of the Navigation Pane along the left side of every folder. You can ignore folders and dump all your files onto the Windows desktop.

But organized stuff is much easier to find. The new Windows 10 web browser, Microsoft Edge, conveniently drops all of your downloaded files into your Downloads folder.

Like everything else in Windows, disk drives are represented by buttons, or icons. The File Explorer program also shows information stored in other areas, such as phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, or scanners. When you double-click a hard drive icon in File Explorer, Windows promptly opens the drive to show you the folders packed inside.

Earlier versions of Windows tried to second-guess you. When you inserted a music CD, for example, Windows automatically began playing the music.

When that message appears, choose it with a click of the mouse. A second message appears, listing every way your PC and its gang of apps and programs can handle that item. But what if you change your mind about how Windows should treat a newly inserted item?

Once again, Windows shows the message asking you to plot the future course. When in doubt as to what you can do with an icon in File Explorer, right-click it.

Windows presents a menu of all the things you can do to that object. If you double-click an icon for a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray drive when no disk is in the drive, Windows stops you, gently suggesting that you insert a disk before proceeding further.

Spot an icon under the heading Network Location? Because folders are really little storage compartments, Windows uses a picture of a little folder to represent a place for storing files. Spot another folder inside that folder?

Keep clicking until you find what you want or reach a dead end. That closes the wrong folder and shows you the folder you just left. If you keep clicking the Back arrow, you end up right where you started. The Address bar provides another quick way to jump to different places in your PC. The little arrows between the folder names provide quick shortcuts to other folders and windows.

If you try clicking any of the arrows, menus appear, listing the places you can jump to from that point. For example, click the arrow after Music, shown here, and a menu drops down, letting you jump quickly to your other folders.Discussion in ' Earlier Versions of Windows ' started by ozegirlOct 13, Are you looking for the solution to your computer problem?

Joined: Jun 21, Messages: In "view as web page", placing cursor on these folders brings up "system folder" in the left hand area where you normally get the name of a folder, the size, and other data. All I get is "system folder" - no other info. A right click on the folder brings up only 3 things - Cut, Create Shortcut, or delete.

I tried to delete but it doesn't work. There is no Properties on the right click menu.

A double click does not open the folder. This is my son's computer and he did have software installed for mobile phone connection - which he "uninstalled" - though he never uninstalls things properly. I think there were some folders for the mobile phone in "my computer" before. I'm wondering if these unnamed folders are these, and they have not been removed successfully.

There was another folder in Control panel which had a phone icon and which similarly had no name, and the same limited right-click menu, and which would not delete.

I went over his computer and finished uninstalling the Nokia software - some folders he hadn't deleted and also used reg cleaner to clean out remaining Nokia registry entries - this successfully removed the phone icon from Control panel, but the 2 unnamed system folders remain in "My Computer".

I have just solved this myself. I was able to remove them from there.
